L'anthropologie multi-espèces s'intéresse aux relations entre les humains et les autres existants. Ainsi, elle met en avant les interconnexions entre tous les êtres et entités, et est en cela une forme critique de l'anthropocentrisme. Par conséquent, cette approche fait face à de nombreux défis dont celui de dépasser l'épistémologie de l'ontologie naturaliste et de l'ethnographie traditionnelle. C'est dans ce contexte que s'inscrit ce présent mémoire. C'est dans une période de profonds changements du regard sur les relations inter espèces que je me suis intéressé aux chiens de traîneau au Québec. L'objectif de cette recherche est d'explorer les méthodes proposées par l'anthropologie multi-espèces afin de décrire la relation entre l'humain et le chien de traîneau mais aussi entre chiens, ceux-ci étant des acteurs à part entière de cette relation. C'est donc par la mise en place d'une méthodologie reposant principalement sur l'observation participante en tant qu' « idiot privilégié » (Locke 2017), la photographie et la vidéographie et finalement des entretiens semi-dirigés, consécutivement à la nécessaire adaptation des méthodes suite à la rencontre du monde fermé des mushers, que cette recherche s'est déroulée.
