Abstract
Many passengers traveled great distances to spend eight hours on the chartered train dubbed the 'Green Mountain Express.' The music train 'Roots on Rails' has developed a cult-like following for the past twelve years. During it's first East Coast visit, fifty passengers sat for eight hours to listen to Founder Charlie Hunter talk about history while riding through bleak fall landscape. Musicians also bring instruments on board and play songs. Hunter's been running the trains out west for years and says there's a natural link between trains and music. The trains travel for about a week and also reach Canada. Fans've dubbed this train route the Green Mountain Express, it runs between Bellows Falls and Brattleboro. Members of the American Association of Private Railroad Car owners made a trip from Maryland to Vermont just for the experience. It was their first time but they say it was other train they've taken and're planning more trips with 'Roots on Rails' Hunter says the experience is a 'carefully curated mini-music festival.' Roots on Rails is looking to book acts and passengers for it's 20-16 trips.
