KEYNOTE SPEAKER\nDr. Roberta Bondar\nAstronaut • Physician • Scientist • Photographer\nDr. Roberta Bondar was the first Canadian woman and neurologist to fly in space. An astronaut, physician, and photographer, she expanded the horizons of millions when she joined the space shuttle Discovery for its 1992 mission, where she conducted over 40 investigations from 13 countries. Her highly motivational talks – punctuated by her stunning photographs – focus on change, social responsibility, and our environment.\nFor more than 12 years at NASA, Dr. Bondar headed an international research team, continuing to find new connections between astronauts recovering from the microgravity of space and neurological illnesses here on Earth. Her techniques have been used in clinical studies at the B. I. Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Bondar served two terms as Chancellor of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.\nDr. Bondar has also earned a reputation as a leading speaker and consultant within the medical and scientific communities, and in the field of corporate social responsibility and care for the Earth’s environment. She co-founded The Roberta Bondar Foundation, a not for profit charitable organization, to reconnect us to the natural environment. The Foundation has school and summer camp programs to help kids connect to and enjoy the natural world around them.\nDr. Bondar holds a BSc from the University of Guelph; an MSc from the University of Western Ontario; a PhD from the University of Toronto; and an MD from McMaster University. She also holds Board Certification Neurology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (with a subspecialty in neuro-ophthalmology from Tuft’s New England Medical Centre). She’s a graduate of, and an examiner for, The Institute of Corporate Directors. Among awards and honours, Dr. Bondar has been recognized with the NASA Space Medal, and has been inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and into the International Women’s Forum Hall of Fame for her pioneering research in space medicine. Dr. Bondar has received 28 Honorary degrees from universities across Canada and is a Companion of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the Order of Ontario.\nIn 2011, Dr. Bondar received her own star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.
