Abstract
"O artigo tem como objetivo principal analisar a empresa missionária católica da província de Québec (Canadá) em direção à América Latina e Brasil em meados do século XX. Concentra-se especificamente nos primeiros movimentos na década de 1950, reconstruindo em perspec-tiva histórico-descritiva a sua trajetória. Refletindo um deslocamento da missão católica em transformação na Igreja universal, as dioceses passaram a desempenhar naquele período um papel cada vez mais central nas missões intercontinentais. A partir deste chamado, partem da província de Québec, no Canadá, os primeiros missionários para a região nordeste do Brasil, Maranhão, mais precisamente. Além de estudos bibliográficos, o artigo se baseou principal-mente no estudo de fontes primárias, inéditas no Brasil, pesquisadas nos Arquivos do Semi-nário de Nicolet, na província de Québec, Canadá."
