Abstract
Özet: İnsanlık tarihi kadar eski bir meslek olan hamallığın teknolojik ilerlemelere karşın varlığını koruduğu bilinmektedir.Geçmişte olduğu gibi zamanın koşullarına uygun değişikliklere uğramış hamallığın, kentleşme ve kentleşmenin doğurduğu göç ile kırsal kesimden gelen vasıfsız işçiler ve göçmenler tarafından öncelikle tercih edildiği görülmektedir.Öte taraftan hamallık mesleğinin sosyal prestij açısından çekici olmaması ve çalışma yaşamının "en alttakileri" olarak düşünülmeleri, toplumsal işleyişin ve işbölümünün belirli bir parçasını oluşturan bu kesimin yeterince fark edilmemesine neden olabilmektedir.Çalışma genel anlamda devletin kontrol ettiği, formel ekonominin dışında kalan işgücünün kendi hesabına faaliyetlerini ve istatistiklere yansımayan ya da tam olarak hesaplanamayan istihdamın görünümü irdelemektedir.Hamalın kim olduğu, hamallığın tercih edilme nedeni veya hamallığı üreten sosyo-ekonomik koşullar sosyolojik bir perspektifle ele alınmaktadır.Hamallığın bir meslek olarak hangi anlam ve anlamlara karşılık geldiği, hamal olarak çalışan işgücünün sosyo-ekonomik durumu, teknolojik ilerlemeler karşısında yaşadıkları sorunları Isparta örneklemi üzerinden ev taşıma ve yük boşaltma işlerinde çalışan hamallarla gerçekleştirilen alan çalışmasının sonuçlarına göre değerlendirilmektedir.
