Abstract
La population de 1000 bélugas de l'Estuaire du Saint-Laurent, déclarée menacée de disparition depuis 1983, habite le fleuve qui draine le quart le plus industrialisé de l'Amérique du Nord. Depuis vingt ans, des carcasses de bélugas échoués, convenablement conservées, sont autopsiées à la Faculté de médecine vétérinaire de l'Université de Montréal (FMV). Parmi les causes de mortalité rapportées, la pneumonie vermineuse à nématodes Metastrongyloidae: Pseudalüdés est fréquemment rencontrée. Les publications consultées relatent l'infection d'autres cétacés Odontocètes par ces parasites. Notre étude, incluant 117 carcasses de bélugas autopsiées entre 1983 et 2003 à la FMV, vise à évaluer la prévalence d'infection par Halocercus sp. et Stenurus sp., et à caractériser la pathologie et l'épidémiologie de cette condition. L'évaluation de certains indices de condition suggère que les lésions de pneumonie vermineuse peuvent avoir un impact significatif sur la santé des bélugas de l'ESL échoués.
