Abstract
Suomen sisällissodan aikana kysymys naisten aseistautumisesta nousi esiin niin punaisten kuin valkoistenkin puolella. Molemmilla puolilla ajatus naisten aseellisuudesta koki ensin vastustusta, mutta sodan edetessä punaiset sallivat naisten taistelun osana punakaartin joukkoja. Valkoisella puolella naisten aseistautumiseen suhtauduttiin huomattavasti tiukemmin ja naisten ei annettu taistella, mutta valkoiset naiset itse osoittivat huomattavaa kiinnostusta aseelliseen toimintaan ja aiheesta keskusteltiin lehdissä laajasti. Tutkielmassa käsitellään naisten aseistautumisesta käytyä keskustelua ja heistä esitettyjä kuvauksia valkoisessa mediassa Valkoisen Suomen, Keskisuomalaisen, Uuden Suomettaren ja Hufvudstadsbladetin kautta. Keskustelu ja naisten kuvaaminen jakaantuu pääosin kahteen pääkategoriaan, jossa naisia pidettiin joko uhkana tai vitsinä. Naiset koettiin uhkana nimenomaan yhteiskunnalle ja isänmaalle, siveydelle ja naiseudelle. Punaisiin ja valkoisiin naisiin suhtauduttiin hyvin eri tavalla ja punaiset naiset nähtiin useammin uhkana kuin valkoiset naiset.
