Abstract
En venant au Canada en 1603, Samuel de Champlain fut initié par François Gravé du Pont à la diplomatie franco-amérindienne et aux explorations. Il rencontra divers peuples autochtones qui, avec l'élargissement du réseau des alliances des Français, devinrent ensuite leurs principaux alliés. Afin de contribuer à l'avancement des connaissances historiques relatives aux alliances interculturelles entre Européens et Amérindiens au début du XVIIe siècle et aux rôles respectifs de Champlain et des chefs amérindiens, nous analysons dans ce mémoire la diplomatie franco-amérindienne. Pour contextualiser ces relations diplomatiques, nous présentons auparavant l'histoire de Samuel de Champlain et la politique amérindienne de la France entre 1598 et 1635. Nous démontrons également que les Français adoptèrent les protocoles amérindiens lors de leurs négociations diplomatiques avec les autochtones et que l'application du droit français aux autochtones, formulée dans les documents officiels, demeure fictive et de l'ordre des intentions.
