Abstract
"El tratamiento médico óptimo de los pacientes con enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal requiere que el médico tratante obtenga una buena historia clínica, evalúe al paciente, realice los procedimientos diagnósticos necesarios, y luego prescriba un tratamiento adecuado, basado en la evidencia de estudios clínicos controlados. Las metas del tratamiento farmacológico en pacientes con enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal son mejorar la calidad de vida, reducir el riesgo de complicaciones y evitar intervenciones quirúrgicas. Las recomendaciones de la nueva clasificación de Montreal con respecto a enfermedad de Crohn y colitis ulcerativa deben ser implementadas en nuestra práctica clínica. Finalmente, la introducción de la terapia biológica (Infliximab, adalimumab) ha mejorado las opciones de tratamiento en el manejo de la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal."
