Abstract
La massification des séparations conjugales et son corolaire, la libéralisation du droit au divorce, sont observées dans la plupart des pays d’Europe et d’Amérique du Nord. À partir d’enquêtes collectives menées durant plusieurs années en France et au Québec, cet article analyse la portée de ces changements sur les inégalités de classe et de genre. Dans ces deux contextes, l’action publique visant les séparations conjugales joue un rôle majeur dans le renouvellement contemporain du gouvernement de la vie privée. Toutefois, la France et le Québec sont caractérisés par des régimes partiellement distincts de reproduction institutionnelle des rapports sociaux. Ceci s’explique notamment par le caractère limité des circulations transnationales, débouchant sur une « convergence divergente » entre ces deux juridictions.\n
