Abstract
La collana “Canone Teatrale Europeo” diretta da Anna Barsotti e Annamaria Cascetta per i tipi ETS prosegue con la pubblicazione del Saul di Vittorio Alfieri, sua unica tragedia di argomento biblico. Considerata tra le più mature e artisticamente riuscite, si distingue per l’attenzione posta agli aspetti performativi e per una scrittura pensata appositamente per la scena. Non bisogna infatti dimenticare che Alfieri fu, anzitutto, attore, allestitore e impresario di sé stesso, liberandolo finalmente dal limbo letterario in cui la critica lo ha lungo relegato.
