Abstract
Little empirical research has been conducted on marriage contracts in Canada or prenuptial agreements in the United States, even though they have the potential to reduce interactions with the justice system, which can be slow, complicated, and expensive. This exploratory study explores the thoughts and attitudes of people who are in relationships but unmarried towards prenuptial agreements (for US participants) or prenuptial marriage contracts (for Canadian participants). Findings will help us understand who is and is not interested in these contracts, which will be useful for both researchers and legal professionals.
