Citizens' perception of the federal government in the Belgian, Canadian, and South African Federations

Abstract
In multinational federations, centrifugal forces put a great deal of pressure on the federal structure. Therefore the political agenda of these societies such as Belgium, Canada, and South-Africa is chiefly influenced by intergovernmental or federal issues. In this context, I propose to analyze how citizens perceive the federal order, in particular the federal government, in order to shed light on the dynamics in multinational federations. In fact, the aim is to study the relationship between the perceptions of the federal government and the image it sends back. This federal image is a construction. It is made by politicians and political parties as well as, to some extent, the media. Studying this federal image will help to apprehend the dynamics at stake in multinational federations.
