La variabilité de la circulation profonde en Atlantique Nord est étudiée dans le contexte du changement climatique à l aide des traceurs transitoires halocarbonés (CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113 et CCI4). Des campagnes hydrographiques datant de 1991 à 2006 sont utilisées, d une part pour étudier la formation de masses d eau de l Atlantique Nord : l eau de la Mer de Méditerranée (MSW) et l eau de la Mer du Labrador (LSW), et, d autre part, pour étudier la variation des propriétés et du transport des masses d eau profondes en Atlantique Nord. L étude de la MSW montre la présence d une masse d eau peu oxygénée, avec une forte concentration de silicate dans le Golfe de Cadi caractéristique de l eau Antarctique Intermédiaire, Elle entre dans la formation de la veine inférieure de la MSW. L étude de la uLSW dan la Mer d lmminger met en évidence la variabilité des sites de formation de cette eau, Elle se forme tous les ans en Mer du Labrador et peut s étendre vers le nord au Sud Groenland (observé 2005). Elle se forme également en Mer d lmminger en 2002 et 2005. Les eaux de la LSW présentent une forte variation depuis les années 1990. Il est observé un changement de régime des profondeurs de convection associé à une diminution du transport de CFC-1 1 due à cette eau. Les caractéristiques de l eau de débordement du détroit du Danemark (DSOW) en Mer d Imminger dépendent du mélange, notamment de la présence de l eau de surface polaire. Finalement, l étude des flux de CFC-11 au nord de la section Ovide met en évidence une diminution des échanges océan-atmosphère en 2006 due à une diminution de la couche de mélange, entraînant une diminution de l assimilation de CO2.
