Abstract
In Quebec literature the journey motif assumes special significance. This work analyses the extent to which the journey motif appears as a decisive identity-building factor in contemporary Quebec literature. A developed identity-journey-framework provides the basis for analysing the protagonists’ identity formation processes within a selected body of novels. A detailed aspect-oriented examination serves as a tool for the in-depth literary analysis to identify constructed identities. It can be seen that the journey motif provides varied and significant impetus for the identity formation of the novels’ protagonists. Thus, the analysis underlines the inherent potential of travelling for stimulating the development of identity, especially in times of personal crises.
