Abstract
Educating a patient about his treatment and pathology has become a necessity with the onset of chronic diseases as the patient has to live with it for the rest of his life. A patient who understands the challenges of his treatment and his disease will be more sensitive to the importance of medical and drug monitoring and more able to recognize the signs of a crisis or the onset of a problem. In France the patient’s experiences, knowledge and vision of his disease are taken into account in order to adapt the care. This vision of patient care may differ in others European countries and throughout the world. After having define the therapeutic patient education in France with the example of myocardial infarction, we will briefly describe the place of therapeutic education in some European countries and in Canada.
