La categoría “cronotopo” representa quizá uno de los aportes más valiosos de la propuesta bajtiniana para leer las conexiones complejas entre obra artística y contexto social. Esta categoría, sin embargo, presenta en su formulación algunas problemáticas que merecen ser desarrolladas antes de su aplicación en un caso concreto. Nos interesa abordar la representación artística de la ciudad en un tipo de texto digital de amplia circulación en la actualidad, el videojuego, indagando allí el modo en que un juego en particular, Watch_Dogs (2014), da cuenta de algunos rasgos de inestabilidad de la experiencia urbana contemporánea. Lo que nos interesa demostrar a partir de este ejemplo concreto es cómo la construcción del espacio en ese videojuego reproduce lógicas urbanas globales pero particularizadas por la propia interacción del jugador en ese espacio. Así, de lo que se trata es de una apropiación controlada de la ciudad para garantizar derroteros particulares del héroe en la ciudad ficcional a costa de un jugador que permanece quieto en su ámbito de juego. A eso apunta el caso particular de este videojuego de “mundo abierto”, esclarecedor para pensar esta afirmación pues se trata de un marco de acción de amplísimas posibilidades interactivas que encubre, sin embargo, una paradoja central: la condición de presentar una ciudad hiperestimulante con un protagonista en continuo movimiento para jugadores (ciudadanos) que las construyen interactivamente a partir de su inmovilidad. En primer lugar recorreremos algunos problemas metodológicos que surgen del planteo teórico de la categoría de “cronotopo” y exploraremos algunas propuestas de resolución. En segundo lugar, se brindarán algunas características que la crítica urbana ha reconocido acerca de la ciudad global actual y, en tercer término, se analizará la ciudad ficcional de Chicago en Watch_Dogs (2014), videojuego del estudio canadiense Ubisoft Montreal.
