Monroe Evening News article titled "Erie looks to stop work on Turtle Island" by Ian C. Storey (Evening News staff writer), dated August 24, 2002, page 3A, reports that the island construction, begun by Keith Fifer, is not legal without plans and permits. Turtle island is located four miles NE of the Ottawa River's mouth in Lake Erie's Maumee Bay. Fifer plans to fight the orders.
