Abstract
The aim of this paper is to inquire into forms of governmentality of social conflict in a peripheral territory. To this end, the paper examines from a genealogical perspective various strategies and tactics of government that were deployed on the surplus population that emerges as a subject of protest in the province of Chaco [Argentina], since the last quarter of the twentieth century, as well as the social processes of resistance that these same subjects have been leading since then. This research shows that the surplus population in peripheral territories constitutes a crucial social issue insofar as its massiveness has kept it as a constant threat to the social order.
