In dit artikel wordt nagegaan of het moment waarop een herstelgerichte interventie, zoals herstelbemiddeling, conferencing of dader-slachtofferontmoetingen, plaatsvindt een impact heeft op de beoordeling ervan. Daartoe werden interviews gedaan met slachtoffers van geweldsmisdrijven in België en Canada waarvan de helft deelnam aan een herstelgerichte interventie vóór of nadat hun dader buitenvervolging gesteld, veroordeeld of bestraft werd. Hun getuigenissen laten toe om te besluiten dat slachtoffers tevreden zijn met de herstelgerichte interventie ongeacht het moment waarop deze plaatsvond, op voorwaarde dat de interventie aangevuld wordt met een gerechtelijke procedure waarin de dader formeel ter verantwoording wordt geroepen.
