Historian vihreiden lehtien havinaa : Villa Mairean huonekasvit 1939 - 1990 aikansa kulttuurin kuvaajina

Abstract
Tutkielmani keskittyy Villa Maireaan, arkkitehtuurin merkkiteokseen Noormarkussa, sekä sen huonekasveihin. Tutkielmani vastaa kysymyksiin siitä, millaisia huonekasveja Villa Maireassa on ollut vuosina 1939–1990, mitä niillä on haluttu ilmentää ja viestiä ja miten ne vertautuvat muiden Alvar Aallon suunnittelemien kohteiden vihersisustukseen. Tutkielman loppuosassa vertaan historiallisia valokuvia myös rakennuksen vihersisustuksen nykytilaan kasvilajikkeiden ja niiden paikkojen osalta. Kyseessä on aineistolähtöinen tutkimus, jonka tutkimusaineistona käytän pääosin Villa Mairean arkistovalokuvia edellä mainituilta vuosikymmeniltä. Aineisto on rajattu valokuviin, jotka on otettu sisällä rakennuksessa, ja joissa huonekasveja näkyy riittävästi niiden tunnistusta varten. Tutkimus tehdään visuaalisen sisällönanalyysin menetelmin. Tunnistan valokuvista huonekasvit ja vertaan niitä aiheesta kertovassa kirjallisuudessa esiintyviin trendeihin, sekä muiden Alvar Aallon suunnittelemien rakennusten huonekasveihin. Kuvien analyysissä ja vertailussa selvisi, ettei Villa Mairean vihersisustuksessa ole haluttu seurata vallalla olevia trendejä tai säätyjakoa, vaan kyseessä on ollut Maire Gullichsenin omien suosikkilajien säilyttäminen läpi vuosikymmenten. Lajikkeissa on painotettu myös helppohoitoisuutta, sekä yksitttäisten kasviyksilöiden mahdollisimman pitkää säilyvyyttä. Huonekasvit ovat myös pitkälti samoja, kuin muissa Aallon kohteissa.
