Abstract
This thesis begins by investigating the modelling of a simple chain under gravity from the perspective of an implicit Hamiltonian model with Lagrangian multipliers.A Hamiltonian model for a modern control approach of a pendubot with passivity-based control is then used.An energy swing-up controller bringing the pendubot to a homoclinic orbit intended to be used with a another controller, which would then be catching the chain in the upright position.A second model, describing the system with point masses is also constructed with the objective of an eventual comparison with the first model.
