Abstract
Il saggio prende le mosse dalla nota sentenza n. 42 del 2014, con cui il Tribunale costituzionale spagnolo si è pronunciato sulla dichiarazione di sovranità approvata dal Parlamento catalano nel 2013. All'analisi della sentenza segue una descrizione delle sue principali conseguenze politico -istituzionali e delle prospettive di sviluppo della vicenda indipendentista catalana.\nIl saggio si chiude con una comparazione del caso catalano con le esperienze indipendentiste del Quebec, della Crimea e della Scozia.
