La Operación Bisonte (1957) fue uno de los primeros proyectos del Instituto Español de Emigración (IEE), institución que plasmó la visión tecnocrática de la emigración como un pilar del desarrollismo y una vía de escape ante el excedente de mano de obra en una España aún marcada por las carencias del régimen autárquico franquista. A través de la Embajada de Canadá en España y con el respaldo de la Iglesia católica, el IEE puso en marcha la primera operación de emigración planificada de matrimonios procedentes de las regiones septentrionales de España hacia la provincia de Quebec, con el objetivo de ocupar puestos en el sector agrícola y el servicio doméstico. Basado en material de archivo y en los testimonios de algunos de los emigrantes que participaron en la Operación Bisonte, el libro ofrece una visión detallada de este primer experimento migratorio del tardofranquismo, analizando sus implicaciones socioeconómicas y políticas en el contexto de la emigración española.
