Esta investigación realiza un estudio comprensivo sobre la pasión de aprender desde el punto de vista de un grupo de estudiantes universitarios. Para la selección de los participantes se apoya en el enfoque descriptivo a través de la aplicación de una encuesta sociodemográfica y del cuestionario de procesos de estudio, a 464 estudiantes de cuatro universidades de la ciudad de Cúcuta: dos de carácter oficial, y dos privadas. El estudio cualitativo se realiza a partir de diez grupos focales y veinticinco entrevistas en profundidad. Se analizan los datos con apoyo de la teoría fundamentada tanto de forma manual (codificación abierta, axial, y selectiva), como con el empleo de la herramienta atlas ti. Se asumen las pasiones como motores que conducen a la acción tomando como referentes especiales a Epicuro, Aristóteles, Spinoza, Serres, Damasio, Maturana, Rousseau, Assmann, Brockbank & McGill, Not y Mèlich. En el tema de los aprendizajes universitarios se toma como referentes a Säljo, Marton, Entwistle y Biggs y su teoría de los enfoques de aprendizaje. Las categorías emergentes que sirvieron para la comprensión del fenómeno son: el sentido de la pasión de aprender, los aspectos intrínsecos y extrínsecos asociados a la pasión de aprender, el ritual de aprendizaje, el horizonte de sentido y los trayectos apasionados.
