Abstract
L'Association des zouaves de Québec a vu le jour en 1899. Vivant un déclin inéluctable depuis plusieurs années, l'association consacrait en quelque sorte la fin de sa contribution active à la société québécoise, en 1993, par le don au Musée de l'Amérique française des principaux biens relatant son histoire. L'analyse de ce fonds, rehaussée des témoignages des derniers membres actifs, permet de tracer une image réaliste de cette association para-militaro-religieuse. Sous des aspects indéniablement militaires, l'association a recruté de jeunes hommes, tout au long du vingtième siècle, pour leur inculquer les valeurs chères à l'Église catholique et, surtout, à les afficher et servir d'exemple. Les zouaves ont prôné le respect de l'ordre établi, civil et religieux, dans leurs manifestations publiques et l'accomplissement de soi dans un environnement contrôlé et des activités sociales sélectionnées.
