Abstract
Avant 1939, les précurseurs sont Paul Robin, Eugène Humbert et le Dr Jean Dalsace. En 1956, l’association La Maternité heureuse est soutenue par le Dr Pierre Simon, qui conseille les députés progressistes Emmanuel d’Astier de la Vigerie et Charles Hernu. Le journaliste Jacques Derogy publie Des enfants malgré nous. En 1965, François Mitterrand fait de la légalisation de la contraception un thème de campagne présidentielle. Puis joue un rôle décisif le député gaulliste Lucien Neuwirth, artisan de la loi de 1967 autorisant la contraception. Dans les années 1970, lors du combat pour la légalisation de l’IVG, on retrouve Pierre Simon, Michel Rocard, des prix Nobel de médecine, François Mitterrand et Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, élu président en 1974. La loi Veil, promulguée le 17 janvier 1975, est appuyée par la gauche mais aussi par Eugène Claudius-Petit et Jean-Pierre Fourcade. La loi de 2001, qui libéralise celle de 1975, est votée par la gauche et par Philippe Seguin et Guy Drut.
