Abstract
Pour pallier au déclin de la productivité des grandes essences wallonnes, de plus en plus de parcelles forestières sont diversifiées à l’aide d’essences exotiques provenant d’Asie et d’Amérique du Nord. Cependant, les risques liés à de telles introductions ne sont pas négligeables : propagation de pathogènes, appauvrissement de la biodiversité, émergence de nouvelles espèces invasives… Une étude a été menée dans huit arboretums forestiers wallons afin de quantifier la régénération naturelle de conifères exotiques. Six espèces présentent un potentiel envahissant, particulièrement le tsuga hétérophylle et le sapin de Vancouver, qui se dispersent également sur de longues distances. Afin d’éviter les impacts négatifs sur nos écosystèmes naturels et préserver la multifonctionnalité de nos forêts, la plantation d’espèces exotiques doit être mûrement réfléchie et précédée d’analyses de risques rigoureuses.
