Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

When a geologist and paleontologist takes a "vacation" trip to the Maritime Provinces of Canada, he cannot leave his professional knowledge and curiosity behind. Bob and Anne's trip to the northeastern coasts of Canada yielded many examples of the surviving evidence of huge momentous planetary changes over millions of years, and also fascinating records of contemporary and historical places and things of interest. Bob has shared the slides from his latest report/presentation and reminds me that the slides were merely departure points for his explanations and discussions of things depicted: Viking life, natural resources from land and sea, tectonics, thrombolites, glaciation, the tumultuous events of the Cambrian and later geologic eras and their remnants today.\nWe wish we could hear Bob's explanations of all these things, but his visual reminders will have to do for now.\nThere are 106 slides. Bob and Anne are pictured in slide 86 in the first row in bright (Husker?) red rainsuits.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
