В данном исследовании рассмотрены ключевые материальные и нематериальные места памяти во Франции и в Квебеке, оказывающие влияние на формирование национальной идентичности французов и квебекцев соответственно. Процесс формирования идентичности рассматривается в работе с точки зрения теории конструктивизма. Автор анализирует нарративы, содержащиеся в местах памяти, которые позволяют понять, благодаря чему те или иные места стали местами памяти и оказывают влияние на конструирование идентичности нации. Исследование двух сходных сообществ позволяет выделить ключевые моменты в анализе мест памяти и их роли в формировании национальной идентичности, обобщить опыт, накопленный при их рассмотрении и предложить модель для анализа идентичности других стран и регионов при помощи концепции мест памяти.
