Abstract
Le présent mémoire cherche à étudier la vision du Canada que Pierre Berton, historien populaire, journaliste et figure médiatique, a su présenter à son auditoire depuis les armées 1950. Pour ce faire, nous avons analysé à la fois sa production livresque, radiophonique et télévisuelle. Nous nous sommes attardé principalement à sa mise en récit de l'histoire canadienne. Nous avons aussi cherché à étudier la vision du Canada qu'il présente au sein de ses ouvrages pour enfants, ses recueils photographiques ainsi qu'au sein de ses émissions de radio et surtout de télévision. Nous avons aussi étendu notre analyse à sa conception de l'identité et du particularisme canadien. Nous avons enfin tenté de comprendre de façon globale son interprétation du Canada tout en cherchant à élucider les principaux objectifs qui sous-tendent sa démarche. Il nous est apparu très clairement que Berton défend un programme nationaliste, celui-ci orientant l'ensemble de sa démarche professionnelle.
