La présente thèse de doctorat s’intéresse aux obstacles à l’intégration à l’emploi des personnes ayant un trouble mental grave (TMG) ainsi qu’à un facteur important permettant de les surmonter, soit l’alliance de travail (AT), notamment celle qui se développe entre le conseiller en emploi spécialisé (CES) oeuvrant dans des programmes de soutien à l’emploi (PSE) et ses clients. Un premier article, prenant la forme d’une revue intégrative de la littérature, a permis d’analyser 35 études expérimentales et non expérimentales publiées entre 1997 et 2017 pour identifier les obstacles les plus saillants à l’intégration professionnelle des personnes atteintes de TMG. Six thèmes principaux ont émergé, regroupant les obstacles de nature environnementale (prestations d’invalidité, stigmatisation, soutien social, services professionnels) et ceux de nature individuelle (maladie, expérience professionnelle, compétences, perception de soi, craintes, motivation). Les obstacles les plus fortement appuyés par la recherche étaient le manque d’expérience professionnelle et l’absence de stratégies efficaces pour trouver un emploi. Le deuxième article se concentrait sur l’AT entre le CES et ses clients atteints de TMG, en étudiant non seulement son développement lors des trois premières rencontres de soutien à l’emploi, mais aussi son lien avec l’obtention d’un emploi par le client. À l’aide d’analyse de clusters, trois profils d’AT ont été identifiés. Le profil représentant une alliance très forte et stable était le plus lié à l’intégration d’un emploi par les clients. Les entrevues effectuées avec les CES ont permis de constater que les facteurs susceptibles d’expliquer les différents profils d’alliance sont complexes et interdépendants entre les deux acteurs.
