Ce document présente le contexte de recherche, la méthodologie, les résultats et quelques éléments d’analyse d’un stage réalisé à Montréal-Nord à l’hiver et au printemps 2013 dans le cadre de la maîtrise en études urbaines de l’Institut national de la recherche scientifique. Le stage réalisé auprès de l’organisme Parole d’excluEs avait comme objectif de mieux comprendre le potentiel de l’agriculture urbaine à Montréal-Nord, sous l’angle de la perception et des besoins de jardiniers de l’Îlot Pelletier. Pour ce faire, trois entretiens de groupe ont été réalisés avec des jardiniers de l’Îlot Pelletier, et, afin de comparer avec les perceptions de non-jardiniers, deux entretiens de groupe ont été réalisés avec des résidents de Montréal-Nord impliqués auprès du Centre d’action bénévole de Montréal-Nord. Ainsi, par le biais de mises en situation et de discussions de groupe, il a été possible d’identifier certains éléments qui semblent primordiaux pour ces résidents de Montréal-Nord dans le cadre d’un projet de jardinage collectif. Ainsi, au-delà de la production alimentaire, ces participants considèrent que les relations humaines et sociales qui sont possibles dans de tels projets sont essentielles. Afin d’assurer une plus grande pérennité au projet, mais aussi une meilleure accessibilité alimentaire dans le contexte nord-montréalais, plusieurs des participants aux entretiens proposent également d’intégrer des projets de jardinage collectif à d’autres projets, afin de créer un véritable système alimentaire à Montréal-Nord, ce qui permettrait de répondre à plusieurs des nombreux besoins identifiés par les résidents. This document presents the context, methodology, results and preliminary analysis of a research internship done in Montreal-Nord during the winter and spring of 2013, as part of a Masters in Urban Studies at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique. The internship was with the organisation Parole d'excluEs. The objective was to gain an understanding of the potential of urban agriculture in Montreal-Nord by looking at how it is perceived by the citizen-gardeners from Îlot Pelletier, as well as their needs. To reach this objective, three group interviews were held with gardeners from Îlot Pelletier and, to compare their views with those of non-gardeners, two interviews were realised with citizens from Montreal-Nord involved with the Centre d'action bénévole de Montréal-Nord. The interviews were conducted through situation tests and group discussions. They allowed several elements that seem essential to Montreal-Nord citizens in collective gardening projects to be identified. For most of the participants, food production is important, but even more so are the human and social relationships that these kinds of projects create. To make sure the project is sustainable, but also to have a better food access in Montreal-Nord, most of the participants suggest that the gardening projects be integrated into other projects in order to create a real food system in the neighborhood. This would answer many of the needs identified by the residents.
