Abstract
This paper will show that there have been many changes in the field of children's literature studies and that the tradition of representing the 'other' has undergone major developments as well.Additionally, one needs to keep in mind that some aspects of the genre will never alter.Children's literature has always been and probably will always be more than pure entertainment, as the adult author and reader (i.e.parents, teachers) always expects the story to transmit an educational message.'voices of the other' have been summed up into different cultural communities and recent statistics will give an overview of the minorities' living conditions.However, readers must not get the impression that the discussed ethnic minorities get stigmatised by this grouping or are blindly lumped together.The discussed texts function as examples and still, their distinctive features as works of art must not be ignored.
