Les perturbateurs endocriniens et leurs effets délétères sur la santé et l’environnement sont connus de la communauté scientifique depuis plus de deux décennies et pourtant ce sujet est toujours autant d’actualité. Entre les difficultés de la science à circonscrire l’ampleur de la problématique et celles des gouvernements à mettre en œuvre des solutions efficientes, il n’est pas aisé de déterminer quelles mesures implémenter. Or, l’action gouvernementale est désormais impérative dans un contexte où l’exposition aux perturbateurs endocriniens est telle que les choix des consommateurs ne peuvent suffire à les protéger adéquatement. Le présent essai visera d’abord à définir les perturbateurs endocriniens, en insistant sur les caractéristiques leur étant spécifiques et devant être prises en compte dans l’élaboration d’un encadrement normatif approprié. S’en suivra une analyse critique des stratégies normatives présentement utilisées au niveau international, au niveau de l’Union européenne et au niveau du Canada, qui mettra en lumière l’absence, à l’heure actuelle, de cadre normatif parfaitement adapté à la réalité des perturbateurs endocriniens. Cette analyse révélera toutefois que l’approche du REACH européen s’avère être la stratégie la plus avancée en la matière.
