Abstract
Sendo a saúde um estado de equilíbrio físico e mental, relativamente isento de incómodo e sofrimento, que permite ao individuo funcionar tão eficazmente quanto possível no seu meio, qualquer alteração a este equilíbrio irá provocar perturbações geradoras de mal-estar. Como nos refere Virginia Henderson nos seus postulados, “o individuo forma um todo complexo, com necessidades fundamentais, tendendo e desejando a sua independência.” (p.37). É a satisfação de necessidades em toda a sua complexidade, que conserva a integridade da pessoa. E é precisamente neste contexto que entendemos ser crucial preservar a integridade cutânea como forma de garantir o bem-estar físico e psíquico do individuo, a manutenção da sua segurança e a promoção da sua independência máxima.
