Abstract
Ce mémoire a pour but l'analyse des caractéristiques socio-économiques des filles-mères (âge, métiers, origines sociale, géographique, religieuse...), et des comportements vécus (séjours, destins à la sortie) à l'Hospice Saint-Joseph de la Maternité de Québec dans les années 1852-1876. La prise en charge de la maternité hors-norme, les mentalités concernant la place de la femme et celle de l'enfant, les normes entourant la sexualité, subissent des changements qui reflètent le contexte de transition qui prend place au Québec à cette époque. Le traitement qualitatif et sériel, par support informatique, des registres des pensionnaires ainsi que des registres des enfants trouvés, de même que des divers documents émanant de l'Hospice Saint-joseph, a permis de mettre au jour le paradoxe vécu par les filles-mères dans une société où la définition de la féminité devient plus rigide et contredit en partie la réalité des femmes.
