Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Joseph J. Werkman received degrees from Calvin College (1915) and Calvin Theological Seminary (1918). He served as the pastor for the Christian Reformed Church of Volga, South Dakota (1918-1923), Christian Reformed Church of Oak Harbor, Washington (1923-1928), Christian Reformed Church of Bellflower, California (1928-1934), and as the first pastor of the Bethel Reformed Church of Bellflower, California (1935-1942). Rev. Werkman continued to preach at Bethel into the 1950s, and served as interim pastor at Artesia Reformed Church of Artesia, California, ca. 1955-1956. In the 1950s, he also preached at the Calvary Reformed Church of Ripon, California, and at Chino Mission. His earliest sermons (1916-1929) were preached in Canada, various Michigan cities, and at Volga, South Dakota. The collection contains mainly sermons, most in English, with some in Dutch. Also lectures, sermon outlines, pastoral records, catechisms, and obituaries added to funeral sermons.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
