Abstract
Bu çalışmada Denizliʼnin Tavas ilçesindeki doğum öncesi, doğum anı ve doğum sonrasındaki inanış ve ritüeller ele alınmıştır. Araştırma sırasında ilçede yaşayan kadınlardan yaşadıkları tecrübelere dayanarak kadınlar ve bebeklerle ilgili derleme yoluyla bilgiler tespit edilmiştir. Bölgedeki halkın doğum ile ilgili inançları kendi içerisinde değerlendirilmiş ve Anadolu gelenekleri yanında Türk dünyasındakilere yakın âdet ve geleneklerin de bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bebeğin cinsiyetini belirlemek için kullanılan yöntemler, annenin hamilelik döneminde sakınması gereken durumlar, bebeğin göbek bağının gömülmesi, bebeği beşiğe yatırma, doğumdan sonraki kırk günlük lohusalık döneminde annenin ve bebeğin tehlikeye açık olduğu düşüncesi ile kötü ruhlardan (albasma, albastı, albıs, albız, alkarısı vb.) korunması, tuzlama, kırklama, kırk çıktıktan sonraki ziyaretler kırk uçurma, Denizli Tavas ilçesinde adı gövet olarak bilinen küçük kutlama, ilk çıkan diş için yapılan bir tören olan diş hediği ya da diş buğdayı, gibi uygulamalar hakkında ayrıntılı bilgiler ortaya konulmuştur. Bu inanış ve uygulamalar doğum öncesi süreçten başlayarak doğum anı, doğum sonrası dönemlerde de uygulanmış ve kültürümüzde önemli bir yer edinmiştir. Sonuç olarak bu uygulamaların varlığının bilinmesi halkın kültürüne bağlılığını, eski sistemleri günümüze kadar nasıl muhafaza ettiğini göstermektedir. Bu çalışmada özelde Denizli Tavas ilçesinden derlemeler yapılmış, genelde Anadolu ve Türk dünyasının ortak uygulamaları ele alınıp değerlendirilmiştir.
