Este estudo teve por objetivo realizar uma revisão da literatura de forma exploratória e analítica, buscando determinar a abordagem das pesquisas realizadas com os descritores fibromialgia e dor crônica associados ao assunto tecnologia da informação, a fim de desenvolver um sistema computacional com os mais utilizados. Com isso, realizou-se um levantamento bibliográfico por meio da utilização do banco de dados das bibliotecas virtuais: SciELO, LILACS e PubMed. A busca dos artigos foi feita, exclusivamente, em periódicos incluídos nesses bancos de dados, com a busca em artigos publicados no período compreendido entre os anos de 1998 a 2008. Os resultados encontrados demonstraram uma grande variedade de questionários avaliativos utilizados na síndrome da fibromialgia, em que se destacaram, em número de citações nos artigos, os seguintes questionários: Questionário de Impacto da Fibromialgia (QIF), Questionário de Qualidade de Vida SF-36, Escala de Depressão de Beck, Escala Visual Analógica da Dor (VAS), Critérios do Colégio Americano de Reumatologia (ACR), Inventário de Ansiedade Traço-Estado (STAI), bem como o Questionário de Dor de McGill. O Questionário de Impacto da Fibromialgia foi o mais citado tanto na busca ao descritor fibromialgia como na busca ao descritor dor crônica, com 57,0% e 56,3%, respectivamente. A associação dos descritores fibromialgia e dor crônica ao assunto tecnologia da informação resultou em 26 artigos, o que representa 9,7% de todos os artigos encontrados na pesquisa. Houve também um aumento considerável no número total de pesquisas realizadas nos anos de 1998 a 2007, com uma taxa anual de crescimento de 26%.
