El ensayo analiza la economía política de Argentina a partir de 1983, y la compara con los ciclos políticoeconómicos de posguerra en el SXX. Señalamos la sorprendente persistencia de ciclos con características similares a los predemocráticos, y la vez cambios clave en los actores económicos y su relación con el sistema político: la alianza ofensiva y su nueva vinculación con la centroderecha política, el surgimiento de una alianza defensiva con sindicatos más autónomos del Estado y el PJ y trabajadores informales, la modernización y diversificación del sector agropecuario que influye en los ciclos económicos y en la política, la hegemonía organizativa de la UIA en la industria, y el surgimiento de un los "unicornios", sector intensivo en tecnología con activismo político.
