Tässä pro gradussa tutkitaan arvojohtajuuden käsitettä ja sen käyttöä suomalaisessa politiikassa presidentti-instituutioon liittyen. Tutkimuksen tutkimuskysymys on “Millaisia käsityksiä vuoden 2024 presidenttiehdokkailla on arvojohtajuudesta ja miten ne poikkeavat toisistaan?” Johdannossa pohjustetaan käsitteen historiaa sekä Suomen presidentti-instituution kehitystä. Tutkimusteoriana käytetään Max Weberin teoriaa poliittisesta mahdista ja herruudesta. Aineistona käytän internetistä kerättyä podcast-aineistoa, jossa kukin vuoden 2024 presidenttiehdokkaista keskustelee käsitteestä juontajan kanssa. Analyysissä selviää, että jokainen liittää arvojohtajuuden käsitteeseen mahdiksi tai herruudeksi tulkittavia ominaisuuksia. Niitä legitimoidaan muun muassa korottamalla presidentin positio muiden poliittisten instituutioiden yläpuolelle ja painottamalla presidentin ainutlaatuista suhdetta kansaan.
