Abstract
La warfarine (CoumadinMD) est commercialisée depuis plus de 60 ans au Canada. Les bénéfi ces de cet anticoagulant oral sur les thromboembolies sont reconnus. Depuis 2008, de nouveaux anticoagulants oraux, appelés anticoagulants oraux directs (AOD), sont commercialisés au pays : le dabigatran (PradaxaMD), le rivaroxaban (XareltoMD), l’apixaban (EliquisMD) et l’édoxaban (LixianaMD). Les patients souffrant de fibrillation auriculaire, de thrombose veineuse profonde ou d’embolie pulmonaire, ou encore ayant subi une arthroplastie totale de la hanche ou du genou, peuvent maintenant compter sur de nouvelles options de traitement pour une anticoagulation à moyen ou long terme. Comment les AOD se distinguent-ils de la warfarineȧ Cet article présente les mécanismes d’action, indications, contre-indications et éléments de surveillance associés à l’utilisation des AOD, ainsi que des exemples de situations pouvant survenir chez un patient traité par l’un ou l’autre de ces médicaments.
