Abstract
The present work seeks to offer contributions to the discussion about the existence or not of an ecclesiology in the thought of ecclesiastical authors from the 4th and 5th centuries, based on notes about the conceptions of the Church outlined by authors such as Eusebius of Caesarea, Nestorius of Constantinople and specially Cyril of Alexandria. My intention here is not to be exhaustive, precisely because I want to offer a varied range of observations that cover the delimited chronological outline. I begin with a brief discussion about the way in which the concept of Church is operated in recent works, I then proceed to some theoretical discussions about the same concept in the light of documentation and I close with a more detailed discussion about Cyril of Alexandria as I understand that the contradictions of both his ecclesiastical performance and his theological production are indicative of the plurality of paths that researchers can pursue in this kind of reflections
