Abstract
No wonder that playwrights who wrote historical works got affected from the period which they lived in. Of the works which were written in the first quarter of the republic, some were written by Atatürk’s order. They reflect Atatürk’s point of view concerning history. Due to the fact Atatürk’s perspective which showed that Turkish history dated from beyond Ottoman epoch, the playwrights selected the topics and themes from the archaic Turkish heroes such as Mete, Attila. In this study, eleven plays which were written in Atatürk epoch and based on Turkish history were analyzed. Theater in this period was exploited as a medium to impose the historical view of the time on the public. Principal messages conveyed in the works (theatricals) are as follows: Turkish motherlandis Central Asia. Turks emigrated to outside Central Asia due to drought and started the civilization everywhere they reached. Anatolia (Anadolu) has become Turkish motherland for a thousand years. Turks come from a noble race and have superior humanistic traits. They are not barbarous. Turks are white and brachycephalic. Sumerians are Altaic Turks. Our children should be taught Turkish history.
