Bilingüismo en Quebec : dominios de uso y actitudes lingüisticas

Abstract
El presente trabajo parte de la concepción "individualista" de bilingüismo para analizar el caso de Quebec, provincia francófona de Canadá, donde la mayoría de sus habitantes son bilingües. En primer lugar, debe quedar en claro que ser bilingüe en Canadá significa hablar francés e inglés; en segundo lugar, que al hablar de individuos bilingües en Quebec nos referimos a aquellos que pueden utilizar tanto el inglés como el francés para entender, hablar, leer y escribir. Siguiendo a Myers-Scotton (2002), se analizan factores de diversa índole que han contribuido a que la mayoría de los ciudadanos de Quebec lleguen a ser bilingües activos; luego se indaga sobre los dominios de uso lingüístico de ambas lenguas y por último, nos focalizamos en las actitudes de la comunidad quebequense hacia el francés como lengua oficial siguiendo algunas de las categorías que al respecto utilizó Virkel en su estudio sobre el Español de la Patagonia (2004). A los fines de enriquecer la información recolectada para este trabajo, se incluyen algunas de las respuestas y anécdotas proporcionadas por un entrevistado electrónicamente, ciudadano argentino, bilingüe en inglés y francés que hace tres años vive en la provincia de Quebec.
