Abstract
En raison de la multitude d'applications où ils sont appelés à être utilisés, les exigences envers les dispositifs d'affichage à cristaux liquides sont toujours plus élevées et variées. La qualité de ces dispositifs est grandement influencée par le mode de fabrication des couches d'alignement qui permettent de déterminer l'orientation initiale des cristaux liquides, et l'élaboration d'une méthode sans contact performante serait particulièrement bénéfique pour répondre à ces exigences. \n \n Ce projet vise à évaluer deux nouvelles stratégies de production des couches d'alignement à l'aide d'un champ magnétique. La première consiste à préparer une couche composite comportant des nanoparticules magnétiques qui sont orientées grâce à un champ magnétique externe puis fixées en polymérisant la matrice, le champ net de cette couche devant à son tour aligner les cristaux liquides adjacents. Le deuxième volet mise plutôt sur l'utilisation de mésogènes réactifs, qui sont alignés grâce à un champ magnétique puis polymérisés afin de fixer cet alignement, qui peut ensuite être transmis au cristal liquide. Les travaux entrepris n'ont pas permis de confirmer la possibilité d'employer ces approches pour l'alignement des cristaux liquides, mais les principaux obstacles au succès de ces méthodes et certaines avenues prometteuses ont pu être identifiés.
