Être victime de violence à l’école est un facteur qui affecte fortement le bien-être des personnes, élèves comme enseignants. Et améliorer le climat scolaire est souvent présenté, notamment dans des politiques publiques récentes, comme un moyen efficace pour prévenir ces violences. Dans cette présentation, nous passerons en revue les études empiriques qui se sont intéressées aux relations entre climat scolaire et victimisation à l’école, et nous discuterons de leurs limites théoriques et méthodologiques. Nous ferons ensuite état de deux études multiniveaux qui cherchent à dépasser ces limites, une réalisée au Québec (53 écoles, 11 241 élèves, 1 151 enseignants), l’autre en Belgique (37 écoles, 3 904 élèves, 834 enseignants). Ces études permettent de comparer les liens entre climat d’école, composition du public d’élèves et risque individuel de victimisation, chez les élèves et chez les enseignants. Les résultats font émerger à la fois des différences et des points communs entre élèves et enseignants. Ces résultats remettent en question plusieurs idées reçues concernant la conceptualisation et les effets supposés du climat scolaire. Les implications de ces résultats pour la recherche et la pratique seront discutées.
