Abstract
El Objetivo de este artículo es presentar los hechos estilizados de los ciclos económicos a la luz de la teoría neoclásica del crecimiento, además de desmentir algunos mitos que se han tenido sobre el comportamiento de algunas variables económicas en relación con los ciclos. Para esto presenta, en primer lugar, una revisión de las diferentes teorías sobre los ciclos económicos que se han desarrollado en la historia; en segundo lugar, la teoría moderna de los ciclos económicos; en tercer lugar, las redefiniciones que se han dado a los ciclos económicos que son compatibles con este trabajo; en cuarto lugar, un ejercicio práctico en el que muestra el comportamiento de ciertas variables respecto a los ciclos económicos. Finalmente, se concluye que los hechos presentados demuestran que, desde la Guerra de Corea, el nivel de precios se comporta contracíclicamente y que cualquier teoría en la cual precios procíclicos figuren como factor crucial en la determinación de las fluctuaciones del ciclo económico de la posguerra está condenada al fracaso.
