La Puce communautaire est un cas unique et pionnier d'initiative communautaire visant l'appropriation sociale des nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication au Québec. Elle a été créée en 1984 par trois femmes qui s'inquiétaient du décalage qui pourrait se produire entre le développement technologique et les capacités des individus à les utiliser, surtout parmi les secteurs populaires et en particulier pour les femmes. De cet organisme, fondé en tant qu'organisme sans but lucratif (OSBL), va naître une coopérative de travail « La Puce ressource informatique » en 1994, tout en gardant la structure OSBL active. Aujourd'hui, la Puce représente une expérience novatrice de développement d'une entreprise d'économie sociale. Cet organisme, né d'un projet de sensibilisation et de formation dans le quartier populaire Hochelaga-Maisonneuve à Montréal, se caractérise par sa mission qui est de concilier à la fois des activités d'éducation populaire aux nouvelles technologies de l'information (NTI), à un volet de réinsertion au travail des femmes et des services de soutien et de gestion informatique aux individus, organismes sans but lucratif, syndicats et petites entreprises du quartier. Dans cette étude de cas, nous proposons desuivre le parcours de cet organisme depuis sa création comme OSBL en 1984 jusqu'à sa situation actuelle. La grille de collecte de données utilisée pour l'étude de cas de la Puce communautaire ou « Puce ressource informatique » s'inspire de la grille d'analyse développée au CRISES par Yvan Comeau, destinée à l'étude des entreprises de l'économie sociale.
